"Making Lemonade" and doing it in yellow

When life hands you lemons, it's a good rule of thumb that you should make lemonade. When Kirk and I rudely got denied at California Adventure this last Saturday I was about to throw a fit, but we turned the sour morning into a very fun day.
Always wanting to go explore it, Kirk and I ventured off to The Getty Museum in L.A. What a blast! He was interested in the architecture and I was intrigued by the famous artwork and gorgeous landscape designs. We were pleased all around. The Getty for those of you that have never been is this amazing museum perched along the high hillside of Los Angeles county and is home to some of the most famous artists' work. You get to take a tram up to the museum which makes it even cooler! It's also FREE to get in which, in today's terms makes it the perfect cost:)

This is an ORIGINAL Monet! I couldn't get any closer because they don't let you, and I couldn't use a flash (also because they don't want you to ruin the art) but it was so neat to see it! I remember studying so many of these artists in school and it was surreal to see the real deal!

After the Getty, Kirk and I went to visit our friends' art show in Long Beach. Kelly Williams is an amazing artist and you seriously need to find Rachelle and Kelly on our blog and check out there stuff- so rad!

The Mellow Yellow Ladies: Me, Brit and Rachellle

So, I had so much fun in my yellow shirt that later that week we did the yellow theme again to ensure some more fun. And it worked. Kelly and Jason deVilliers just got back from their honeymoon and we were so anxious to hang out with them! We visited their new pad, which is super killer and had a great night with the new married couple. In keeping with our tradition, our band, "The Broken" rocked out for hours on rock band and we seriously gained thousands of fans. I'm a personal fan of the drums, but when we need to switch off, taking the mic is pretty fun too.

Tacos, Rockstar energy drinks and cookies that night? Yeah, guess our summer diets will be starting next week...

Go get 'em baby!!

Every now and then a little bragging is in order for your husband I believe. Since things started slowing down with his company around the holidays, Kirk has decided to take matters into his own hands. He studied and got his General Contracting License, and ever since then has been blowing up!! It seems like everything you read or hear about the economy is doom and gloom, but not with Kirk. He is currently building a house down at Lost Winds (upscale beach area in San Clemente) and is now under contract to do a huge, total remodel on a house in San Juan Capistrano, and now even thinks he has lined up yet another tenant improvement in Irvine! Seriously, we would have been grateful for just one of these jobs, but 3?!!! And it's only March. He started this stuff half way through January!
So, this is his proud wife reporting in on how grateful and blessed we feel right now that Kirk has such a great job! I am sorry if this is not the sort of post you wanted to read, but I just want to share our blessings.
Sometimes things don't turn out the way you would like, like when Kirk and I both got laid off from different jobs while out in Las Vegas. That time really sucked, but we were able to move back to California and start a new life here and are so thankful we did!
Ok, I'm done boasting about my husband, but if he reads this, I just want him to know that I think he's a stud!! And if any of you want a committed, hard working, intelligent guy to build or remodel their house, let me know!

The DeVillier's Wedding!

So excited to announce that Kelly and Jason are now married! Congratulations to two of the most awesome people ever! They got married in the Newport Beach temple yesterday and everything about the day was perfect! The temple was amazing, such a strong spirit, and the day was gorgeous! Not to mention the bride and groom looked stunning! I couldn't be more thrilled that these two are married so we can start taking all sorts of fun trips together!

p.s. There was an awesome reception that night at this rad house in Newport, but the pictures I took didn't really turn out. Bummer! But I will say it was absolutely beautiful though!

Kelly's Bachelorette Party!!

You know what's harder than spelling bachelorette? Trying to gather the energy to go out and dance til the late hours on a work night! Of course when you are going out for one of your favoritest (not a word but I'd like to make it one) friends, it makes it a lot easier. Kelly is getting married on Saturday in the Newport Beach Temple and the countdown commenced with a ladies' night out of sushi and dancing at Ocean Ave. Brewery! I haven't been there for probably 3 years or longer, but remember how great the 80's night is every Tuesday. The music still rocks! And I was surprised to hear that it is now a very popular "Mormon" hang out spot- who would've known? What a blast we had! Not that I was totally surprised, but I was just thinking that I was getting too old for that kind of stuff, and I was wrong! I'll never be too old to go out and have a fun time with the girls:)

And we danced and we danced and we danced and danced somemore! Gosh, I was a sweaty mess by the time the night was over and it had never felt so good!

With my ears ringing and my eyes starting to blur, we exited the scene and headed home to admit success in having a fun party for Kel!

I'm sorry, I killed a duck

Our apartment complex is situated around a lovely lake. There are bounteous ducks that hang out at this lake. The ducks are not very smart by any means. On my way to work this morning, and being in the usual hurry I am going to work, I saw these two ducks in the road. Typically they slowly meander out of the road to let cars pass, and I wrongly assumed they would do this again.. I was adjusting my hair in my rear view mirror when I heard a thump and went over a "bump." My heart stopped and I stopped to see this pile of feathers behind my car! I felt horrible! When I got to the roundabout, this duck was alive but when I passed this area, the duck was now dead!! Gosh, I'm such an impatient, terrible person! I haven't been able to forget about that all day and I might have been a little snappy first thing in the morning with the 1st graders I'm teaching because of it! I hope tomorrow is a better day. Sorry Mr. Duck. I hope PETA doesn't come and hunt me down.
