7 Month Old Malia Joy Schilling!

My daughter cracks me up. This picture sums up the personality of this little girl. She is funny! She loves making funny faces and being a goof ball. With any luck she'll end up funny and goofy just like her daddy. She is just about the best thing in the world to spend the day with!
So Malia is 7 months old today and yes, she is still in her pajamas. This pretty face just kills me! As you can see, Malia is going to have Kirk's blue-green eyes (they are the same color) and his skin color and his brown hair. She has my eye shape however so that is the one thing that she'll get from mom. She is long and lean and is as tall as many kids months and month older than her. I think she is going to have Kirk's physique as well (which is fine by me because I think her dad is the hottest thing in the world).
Funny thing about Malia: She LOVES tags. She'll spend hours playing with different tags on her toys, dolls, blankets, clothes.. it's kind of bizarre. When she wakes up in the morning she'll entertain herself with the tags on her stuff animals in her crib until we get her. She is getting really good at her fine motor skills of using her pincer grip.
While she isn't crawling yet, she is doing a lot of push ups these days. She spends the days rolling around and sitting up by herself, yet doesn't seem bothered that she can't really get around yet. Oh well, that's fine by me! Easier for me to keep tabs on her!
She still just has 2 teeth but they are out and so cute! We just started brushing her teeth and she doesn't quite grasp the concept yet.
She's got a serious personality at times and I just stare at her in wonder. How did I get such a pensive and serious baby?! She's going to be the one telling us what to do and will probably be helping with our taxes as she gets older.
Everything goes in her mouth! If Hobbs isn't careful with his toys, she'll end up with those in her mouth too! It's kinda gross but we'll building her immune system, right?
Among her favorite toys: this one rattle that her cousins Bentley and Kamryn gave her, my lip gloss tube, plastic spoons, paper plates, ribbons and cords, paper, and books. She is also taking a liking to dolls and animals now which is really cute. Her fascination with non-toy items makes me wonder if I should even buy her more toys. She LOVES her books though! I'm glad too because I love books and we'll spend hours reading them together. She takes one along with her in the car and reads them with me at church. Hopefully this love of reading sticks with her!
So there's 7 month Malia Joy to the World Schilling for ya. Here are some other facts that I'll want to remember as time goes by:
  • She shrieks and sings and talks all day long. She's perfected the "babas, gagas, dadas, papas, nanas, blablas, mamas" and rambles them all together.
  • She laughs at Hobbs and they really do love each other.
  • She LOVES being outside and going places. She loves her walks and loves the swing.
  • She knows her family and is getting just the slightest bit of stranger anxiety.
  • She is still mostly on breast milk but is taking formula now too. She only likes to nurse a couple of times a day and then wants a bottle too.
  • She likes all food- fruits, veggies, oatmeal, mixed foods. Her favorites are avocados, bananas and sweet potatoes. She does not like cantaloupe.. yet. We are going to get her to eat EVERYTHING. Because that's what we eat in the Schilling household. EVERYTHING
  • She sleeps 11 hours straight every night (8:30- 7:30am). Takes a nap from 9ish to 11ish. another nap from 3ish to 5ish.
  • She's eating 3 meals a day with some snacks as needed.
  • She does not know how to use a sippy cup yet and insists on just drinking water from cups and straws (no juice for this girl yet).
  • She loves her bath and could spend the whole night playing in it.
  • Oh, and she likes things hot. All her food and milk she wants hot. Is that weird? If she isn't drinking it I'll make it warmer and then she'll drink it. Strange.
It's funny to me how some people say, "don't lose yourself in motherhood." Yeah, I can understand that. I don't have the desire to shop for me much anymore or work "full time" at a "job." I don't worry about me and make sure the baby is fed and happy and changed before I even get a drink of water. The time that used to be spent working out and worrying about how I looked has now been replaced by washing clothes and breast pumps, changing diapers and reading stories in funny voices. I'll sometimes look in the mirror and cringe at the reflection but then I smile back because there is a bundle of joy in my arms with me.
Being a mom is hard work but never in a million years would I say I have lost myself to being a mom. If anything, I have gained a real sense of purpose and wouldn't change it for the world.

Enough blogging for me! Have a good day!

Roman's 1st birthday party!

Malia's boyfriend, Roman Acevedo, turned 1 this month. She was really excited to attend her first birthday party and requested that she wear her icecream cone dress. We all had a great time playing and mingling and enjoying the best gourmet hot dogs I have ever eaten! Thanks to Nick and Kirstie for throwing such a fun party!
I didn't capture too many photos, but the two below crack me up. I am going to narrate underneath what Malia was telling me:
"Mom! You mean to tell me that this is my boyfriend?! He's so cute though! I am so nervous to talk to him! I mean, he doesn't seem too interested in me.. Should I give him a kiss or something?!"
Roman to Malia, "Hey babe, I like your dress. You look really snazzy today. Thanks for coming to my party! Don't worry if I am giving you the cold shoulder today, you know you're my only one;)"

Okay, so the kids are talking quite that well yet, but you can imagine that is what is going on in their little heads, right?

Happy birthday Grandpa Schilling

Love you Grandpa!!
We feel so blessed and fortunate to have the best family in the world! Jim and Kathy were so sweet to come down and visit for Jim's 72nd birthday this last month. We got to shop and walk around and eat at yummy places. They spoil us so! Malia sure was excited to see them too!
We love you Jim and Kathy! We are going to build you a special room in our house so you can come and stay with us all the time!!! (well, I want to anyway!)

We've got teeth people!!!!

Yup! Right around this peanut's 6 month birthday, two little visitors arrived in her mouth. The teething process this time around wasn't too terrible. It coincided with her 6month shots so that wasn't the funnest, but she only had a day or two of fussiness.
Knock on wood, but I haven't felt these sharp little wonders while nursing yet! Phew!
I think Malia is enjoying the use of these sharp chewers on her toys, Mum mums and pretty much anything else she can get a hold of!
What, teething doesn't make me grumpy!
2 teeth are here with many more to come!

Future Mozart

Well, we can hope at least;)
I took piano lessons growing up and loved it. Now that we have Kirk's sister's piano we have been playing a lot around here. Malia loves to sing along as I play and when Nana comes over she enjoys playing with her.
I hope she enjoys playing as she gets older because I love the sound of music in my home.
